Major Dickason’s Blend®

Born in the earliest days of Peet’s, Major Dickason’s Blend is the result of collaboration between a customer — a local gourmand and coffee aficionado — and Alfred Peet. It’s the result of a shared love of coffee, an expert’s palate combined with a customer’s passion.

Key Dickason was a customer at our original Vine Street store. One day he brought in a blend idea, which intrigued Mr. Peet. He refined the blend, adding two further coffees to its original form. Alfred Peet named the blend in honor of his friend, promoting the retired army sergeant to Major in the process.

There is no other coffee that so perfectly epitomizes Peet’s: the full, rich taste, the complex tapestry of flavors in perfect harmony, the satisfaction from year to year.

Review: What have we here... twittering high notes of African beans, delicate and playful as the flutes and oboes? Do we have the warm midsection of the Latin Americans embracing as would the french horns and tombones ? And (oh my), there, underneath it all is the resounding basso of the Indonesian coffees, reassuring and solid as the noble basoon. The angel trumpets pierce the pallet with clear strong notes. The timpani drums thunderously propel us toward the bottom of the cup. The cymbals crash. What do we have here? We have a symphony.

Review: My husband often makes fun of me because I take my coffee so seriously. Well, we coffee lovers understand one other and appreciate excellent coffee when we taste it. I've been in love with Peet's coffee ever since I had my first cup in Berkeley in 1999. It is some of the finest coffee on earth. My personal favorite is "Major D's" blend, but other blends come close to tying it. Thank you, Peet's, for providing such high-quality coffee AND respecting the environment as well. You are a one of a kind!

Review: I'd been on the hunt for superb coffee for ten years until by chance, I came across Peet's MD blend at a local market where I reside. My taste buds danced when I drank it, for it's robustly smooth taste is better than any of it's competitor brands. I use MD to make a superb espresso using my Bialetti stove top maker, and now find friends making any excuse to come and visit over a cup of joe...; Peet's, I''m a fan!!!

Review: This is quite possibly the best coffee blend ever made! At least half of my regular shipment is Major D. It has a level of complexity that makes it an ideal "get moving" coffee, but also can be savored as a lazier weekend coffee. The balanced acidity, paired with the very full body is perfect. It works just as well in my Presspot, my stove top espresso maker and my drip coffee maker! My wife and I truly enjoy this blend.

Review: I am an avid fan of espresso based drinks. I regularly make lattes at home in my Super Automatic Espresso machine. I've used a myriad of coffees from the biggest names, and some of the smallest names including small roasters with freshly roasted beans. However, nothing has ever came close to what I am experiencing from fresh roasted Major Dickason's Blend. This is one of the greatest treats one could ever give themselves. My favorite drink is two shots of espresso in a 16 ounce cup, nonfat steamed milk, and two sweet and low, and the taste in the cup and the aroma in my home from this fresh batch of Major Dickason's is something I will never forget. Tonight I experienced the best latte I have ever had, better than anything I''''ve made before and better than any drink I have ever gotten in a store. Thank you Peet's, and thank you Major Dickason. I've finally found the ultimate blend.

Review: Over many years of being a loyal fan of all Peet's coffees, I found myself gravitating to one blend: Major D. Brewed dark, it's silky, smooth and rich, with an almost smokey flavor. For me, Major D. is the only thing on Earth that really counts as "coffee" any more. Which means I take beans with me when I travel. Even to Europe.

Review: I have just recently began to try and enjoy various dark roasted coffees, I previously (and still do) enjoy flavored. I have tried a few before Major Dickason's that were all just ok. I had never heard of Peet's until i read an online review of a coffeemaker i plan on purchasing. In the review, the reviewer mentioned that they were using their favorite coffee to ensure that the coffee maker had the best coffee to review, They used Peet's French Roast. This caused me to remember that my grocery store had recently began carrying Peet's. As I ran out of the dark roast I had been using, I decided to try out Peet's. I decided on Major Dickason's simply because of the eye-catching name. This is the best dark roasted coffee I have ever had. (This is from an old, cheap drip coffee maker) I can't wait to try it in my new coffee maker when I get it and in my stovetop espresso maker. I also plan on trying other Peet's roasts. It is so great to have such a great coffee minutes away. It is great that Peets which is located in California is now shipping to grocers in New England. I still enjoy other brands of coffee as well, but doubt anyone can top Peet's Major Dickason's Blend as a Dark Blend Coffee.

Review: I, like many other reviewers, am a devout "coffee snob" who has been a faithful Peetnik for many years (where else could we go but Peets?). Major Dickason's Blend is one of the best blends of coffee I have ever brewed or tasted. Coarsely ground and brewed for three minutes in a coffee press--can't beat it. The aroma alone gives away its complexity. Then sip it, and it is almost as if the coffee is playing a game with you. It is full and smooth to begin, very earthy, and then livens and increases in a rich, earthy brightness on top of its underlying smooth and full tone. And I swear the finish is almost a dark chocolate. An amazing coffee, keeps you intrigued until you swallow--and yes, "addictive as crack."

Review: I grew up in a household where they drank weak Folger's and Maxwell House canned preground coffee. I tried it, and couldn't imagine why anyone would voluntarily drink coffee. Then sometime in the early 70s I was at a Mediterranean restaurant in Palo Alto. After a good meal, we ordered coffee. They brought us two large cups of Major Dickason's (I didn't know what it was until I asked them). It was so different from my conception of coffee.. it was like you could saw off a slice and chew it! I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. After finding out from the waitperson what the stuff was, I made it a priority to find a Peet's and get me some. I thank Peet's and MD for introducing me to REAL coffee. 30-mumble years later, I still love a cuppa MD!

Review: I am a self- professed coffee snob, and I'm proud to say that I've been a Peetnik for many, many years. Growing up, "Major D's" was our weekend coffee, something to look forward to and savor on a lazy Saturday morning. I have tried numerous different brands of coffees over the years, but I always come back to this one. There is no other coffee that can compare to this one. It's full bodied and dark without being overroasted, smooth and not acidic, and has a clean finish. The beans are always glossy and perfectly roasted. This is truly the best coffee on the market today. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a satisfying cup of coffee.

Review: I have been a fan and customer of Peet's since the mid-70's. Major Dickason became my favorite Peet's coffee after testing the darker brews. Because I was mobile and raising a young family I had not bought Peets for a long time. To my great delight, a few years ago,I discovered a Peet's store in near-north Chicago and to my even greater delight they still offer Major Dickason. Peet's offers the best coffee out there and MD is the best of some very good brews. I am again a steady customer.

Decaf Major Dickason’s Blend®

Major Dickason's is our most beloved blend. Born in the earliest days of Peet's, it's the result of collaboration between a customer — a local gourmand and coffee aficionado — and Alfred Peet. We are proud to introduce a decaf version of this perennial customer favorite, made of some of the finest coffees in the world, for a full-bodied, bright, bold and flavorful cup.

For Decaf Major Dickason's, we set out to blend the finest cup of decaf you can drink. We used the same premium coffees as the original for a decaf that is full of flavor, body and aroma, with a mellow, satisfying richness. The resulting coffee stands alone among decafs. It's our boldest decaf yet – and we think "Major D" would be proud.

Espresso Forte®

Espresso Forte is the blend we created specifically with espresso in mind, with flavors that are abundant and bold. Its name connotes both strength and its special aptitude for the most demanding method of preparation.

Espresso Forte strikes the right balance between the earthy satisfaction of Indonesia and Papua coffee and the brightness and spiciness that are characteristic of the Americas. While it reveals its best attributes in traditional espresso preparation methods, it also makes a good cup from a press pot or cone filter.

I tried so many different beans - Intelligentsia, Java Joe's, Illy, Starbucks, Gorilla, Gimme coffee, Great Barrington, Allegro (from Whole Foods) and Caribou. This produces good crema, but the best part is the flavor and aroma. So well balanced and nutty, not acidic and not bitter. I don't know how it works on other machines but I love this one the most!

Review: I tried this coffe for the first time a couple weeks ago. I am brewing it through a Gaggia Classic espresso machine and am comparing it to Illy, Dallis out of New York, and Lavazzia. I find Illy and Dallis both to be very good coffees. Peets by comparison tastes very fresh and produces the best crema I've seen through my machine. It's pure foam right from the start and the crema on the coffee is dark, thick, and delicious. The flavour is pure coffee essence, smooth with no bitterness at all. Highly recommended. I think the freshness of the beans makes this coffe a step above the others.

This blend has a full-bodied taste without any bitterness or the least hint of over-roasted (burned) beans. This is the coffee I want every morning when I wake up. I wish your stores offered this every day of the week. I haven't tried it as a drip coffee but I don't see why it wouldn't be excellent. It's flavors blend together so smoothly that every sip starts out intense and finishes with a mellow creaminess I haven't experienced with any other coffee. How do you get it to do that?

Review: I've been a customer of Peets for over 30 years. I used to buy only Major Dickason, but stopped when it was changed 6 yrs or so ago. It was either changed or you've started buying one of the beans from a different source. At any rate one bean became too dominant. I then have standardised on Espresso Forte, which also had that same strong bean, but it wasn't so strong as to be disturbing. Two weeks ago my new bag did not have that certain bean, or it's amount has been reduced. I vastly prefer what it now tastes like. Has the taste of Major Dickason also changed? Great job.

I'd like to point out this is the only espresso I've ever been able to drink the way espresso is intended to be enjoyed - black. Like it's moniker suggests, this blend is rich in flavor, with a strong bold full-bodied taste, but without any bitterness during or after the sip. It's rare to find a coffee so smooth and rich. In additon due to the richness of this coffee, it also works well over ice.

Gaia Organic Blend®

Every year more certified organic coffee becomes available. Of course, certification does not guarantee cup quality. In Gaia Organic Blend, we have created a coffee amenable equally to palate and planet.

This blend follows the cycle of the seasons, incorporating exceptional crops of certified organic coffee as they are harvested throughout the year. These changes are subtle, but a Gaia aficionado might note in the new year the sweetening influence of a new crop from Colombia, followed in the spring by a lively infusion from Costa Rica, Guatemala, or Ethiopia, and in later months the renewed vigor and balance of beans from Timor or Papua New Guinea. In every season the result is a coffee we are proud to offer, and coupled with our unique roasting style we believe it’s the best certified organic coffee available.

Review: Up until a few weeks ago, the Ethiopian Fancy was my favorite Peet's coffee. I sampled the Gaia at the new Peet's Coffee &Tea shop here in Vancouver, Washington and was sold from the very first taste. It is a smooth coffee for any time of day or night. It is so good to see Peet's up here in the Great Northwest! I have so many coffee places to choose from, and Peet's is still the very best! I wear my "41" hat proudly!

Review: This is a wonderful coffee, much less acidic than most , yet with deep, complex satisfaction as part of its appeal. I drink it for breakfast even though my stomach generally does not react well to coffee in the morning, and think of it as a treat to start my day. Nice breakfast coffee with lots of character, mostly chocolaty and soothing. A great coffee!

Review: I?ve become the brewer for my department at work. We tried the Gaia blend for the first time last week with unanimous enjoyment. I was so pleased with my own first cup that my enthusiasm encouraged a few co-workers who don?t normally drink coffee to try some - they enjoyed it too! I don?t know that I have the coffee tasting terms right, but I experienced the Gaia blend as a rich mouthful with a variety of subtle tastes, as substantial as a cup of hot cocoa without the cloying sweetness. No bitterness, and a lingering aftertaste that said ?complete coffee? rather than bitter, acid, or too strong.

Review: Our favorite Peet's coffee is, hands-down, the Gaia Organic Blend. While my husband and I both enjoy a good cup of coffee, it's hard for us to agree on a single variety of bean or blend--the Gaia Organic has been a repeat favorite with both of us. It's simply got a great, rich flavor that's very satisfying. And not only do we both get to enjoy a great coffee, we also get the satisfaction of supporting organic farming!

Arabian Mocha-Java

The world’s first coffee blend, marrying exotic Arabian Mocha coffee with smooth beans from the island of Java. No doubt coffee drinkers in 18th century Europe thought to combine the rich qualities of Java coffee with the pungent, winy flavors of Arabian coffee, and we still do. When you start with top quality coffees from these regions, the result is a delicious, full-bodied coffee with bittersweet chocolate overtones.

While Americans associate the word mocha with chocolate, they’ve reversed the facts: when cocoa was first refined and sold in Europe, it reminded people of Mocha coffee from Yemen.

Review: I was a little bit wary at first since many Arabian coffee's I have tried were a bit too thick and strong as far as mouth feel and bitterness, but when I had my first cup of this coffee I was so hooked that I sometimes drink it black because of it's mellow rich flavor. I am now a regular at Peet's.

Review: I have been ordering from Peet's for several years now. It is very hard to say what coffee we like best. Mainly because everyone we order we love!! I guess I can say one of our favorites is the Mocha Java &Kenya aa. But all in all, all their coffee is wonderful. I have ordered from other coffee companies but always go back to Peet's. They also have delicious tea. During the holidays we ordered several bags of holiday blend. It was awesome!! We can't wait until morning to put on a pot of Peet's coffee. It makes our day!! Thanks so much for making our days more enjoyable!! Sincerely, June &Jim

Review: I use Peets Arabian Mocha-Java to make espresso-cappuccino. My equipment consists of a La Pavoni Europiccola manual lever machine and a Rancilio Rocky Doserless Coffee Grinder. I tend to prefer coffee beans from Yemen. The taste I seek is that dry unsweetened chocolate flavor characteristic of beans grown in this part of the world. I suspect this blend is a mixture of Sunani from Yemen, perhaps mixed with East African coffees in combination with coffees of the Indo-Pacific island regions. I like this blend very much. It has a distinct unsweetened chocolate flavor with the dryness smoothed out by just a touch of rich herbal flavor. I tend to like only a dash of bite, acidity and herbal flavors in my cup, and this blend comes pretty close to my ideal.

The coffee is loaded with different hints of tastes (complex), sharp enough to get my brain uncoiled from the night yet without the lingering bitterness of a strong brew. Decaf Mocca-Java is a great choice for people who like the water-treated method and want an added dimension in their coffee. The result is a complex brew with enjoyable body.

The Mocca in this blend is from Ethiopia, hence the difference in spelling from Arabian Mocha Java, which contains a Mocha coffee from Yemen.

Review: I had to give up caffeine for health reasons and I started on a search for a drinkable decaf that I would enjoy, and after an exhausting search I found the Peets Mocc-Java Decaf to be the best tasting Decaf on the market, bar none! .. furthermore as a bonus the decaf process that Peets uses is one referred to as water pressed and is therefore a healthy process of removing the caffeine, whew, a lot of words but worth the effort of sharing my viewpoint, I special order my coffee here in PA after discovering Peets in person while vacationing in the SF Bay area :)

Review: The best decaf I have ever tasted. I use it for espresso and cappucino, made with a Gaggio espresso machine. When I serve it to friends, they comment how great it is and don't even realise it's decaf. There aren't many decafs that could pull that off. It's a strong but smooth blend, so my wife loves it too, even though she usually prefers milder coffees. There are cheaper coffees out there, but this is worth the extra.

Review: Giving up caf a few years was difficult in and of itself, but finding a good decaf has proved a chore with anyone but Peets. As a dark beverage drinker (red wines, stout beers, etc), this decaf is the only decaf &water process brand that I have ever come across that meets my tastes. It is rich, dark and full of flavor. I actually give it to my house guests and they never know that they are drinking decaf, but yet they all comment on how heavy and good a coffee it is. Order &enjoy!

French Roast

Peet’s French Roast is our darkest roast. It’s not a coffee for the cautious, but for those who embrace big, intense flavor.

French Roast is roasted longer and hotter than any of our other blends — and that requires that we select a special quality of beans. We choose beans from the highest altitudes of the prime Latin American growing regions. At these high altitudes, the beans mature slowly, becoming denser, harder and packed with flavor. Then they’re deeply roasted to emphasize a distinctive roasty taste while retaining rich coffee character.

Peet’s French Roast is a powerful, deeply flavorful blend that pairs well with cream and sugar.

Review: I love the French Roast. I won't buy anything but Peet's coffee for home any more. You really should try to find a location selling Peets coffee somewhere near where you live though. It's really expensive here online. I was very surprised and when you add shipping it is so much more. I buy it at my local grocery store for $8.99 and sometimes $6.99 when it goes on sale. It is $11.95 plus shipping here. Very expensive...FYI

Review: I've always had Maxwell house, Starbucks, and Folgers. When I went to the local grocery store (Randalls 1012) I decided to step out of the box on my next cup of coffee. PEET's french roast happened to be on sale for $8.88, I read the small biography and grabbed it not thinking anything. When I started the coffee maker for the brewing process i have a habit of smelling the coffee as it settles in the coffee pot, I was amazed that it did not have a bittery smell if that makes sense. In conclusion, this by far is the best French Roast Coffee I have tasted. And I will continue to use your product. Once anyone I can Imagine has tasted your coffee, It makes no sense not to have a cup at home.

Plus good crema, once you get the grind right. If you've only tried French Roast brewed through a drip filter, you'll be surprised at how much flavor and sweetness that lives in these beans.

Decaf French Roast

The characteristic dark and smoky flavors of French Roast are developed by roasting a blend of decaffeinated Latin American coffees a little hotter and longer than our regular roast. High-quality beans are needed to withstand both the effects of decaffeination and the darkness of the roast. This coffee is well-liked by those who want a rich, dark flavor without all the caffeine.

Italian Roast

A blend of coffees from the Pacific and Latin America, Italian Roast has an intense, full-bodied flavor and a balanced and complex aroma, with beans that glisten with natural oils.

The name “Italian Roast” comes from the dark roasting style that is common in Southern Italy (coffees in Northern Italy are normally a big lighter). Roasting Italian Blend is truly a master’s art, and it is perhaps the most demanding of all our coffees to roast. The roaster watches, listens, smells the beans as they roast, waiting for the brief moment when these premium beans reach dark roasted perfection.

Italian Roast is a good choice for those who like a darker roast for espresso, and makes a great cup with a classic Italian stove-top coffee maker.

House Blend

Alfred Peet began Peet’s in 1966 as one small shop on a quiet corner in Berkeley, California. He became known as the pioneer of a distinctively higher quality, high-grown coffee, deeply roasted to maximize flavor. Our House Blend is a perfect introduction to the fine coffee that we’ve specialized in since our founding. It’s a quality cup — carefully selected, choice beans — in this case, a blend from our favorite Latin American origins. It is deep-roasted to deliver the most flavor and aroma, and it’s the freshest coffee imaginable, always roasted and shipped on the same day.

You may have tasted a House Blend before, you may have tasted Latin American coffees, but with your first sip of our House Blend, you’ll notice the distinctive quality of Peet’s and the spicy satisfaction of a great Latin blend.

Review: I Have never had Peet's before, and i have NEVER done anything like this before, but this coffee made me jump out of my skin.If i could afford this coffee in bulk i would start a coffee lounge around the house blend. My first cup was last night and i was still thinking about my next cup the next morning.I honestly feel that this coffee could top my top 5 best coffee ever, and would definitely think about starting a shop around it.Thanks for this outstanding product.

Review: While in Reno last month we ate at a hotel restaurant we asked the manager WHAT kind of coffee they served. Needless to say it was Peet's house blend. We found Peet's in the airport in Reno, we brought coffee back to Texas with us now I am ordering coffee from the website. We were ordering coffee from Hawaii but now that I found Peet's I'm hooked!!! Thank You Peet's!!!! From Texas

Review: Although my favorites change often, I do seem to come back to Peet's House Blend. As I start to brew my coffee, the aroma brings me back to some great memories of the Bay Area. But what really sets Peet's coffee apart is that first sip of a true coffee flavor.
