Fresh Beans
Fresh Beans

In a great cup of coffee, quality is inseparable from freshness.

The flavors and aromas that make Peet’s so delicious are only discovered with freshly roasted, freshly ground beans sourced from the world’s most premium coffee producers.

Buy coffee frequently — weekly, if possible.
We make the extra effort to roast every one of our coffees daily and to deliver fresh roasted coffee to your grocery store weekly or more frequently. This ensures you enjoy your Peet’s at its peak of flavor.

Grind coffee yourself just before brewing.
When it comes to sealing in freshness, we strongly recommend buying whole beans and grinding just before brewing. This way more flavor goes into your cup rather than dissipating into the air. The coffee bean acts as its own container, holding in flavor and aromatic compounds. Once ground, the complexity and richness begins to dissipate. Discover your beans potential with our recommended burr grinders for their consistent grind, superior flavor extraction and range of grind settings.

Store your coffee in an airtight container.
Then place it in a cool, dry, dark place to protect it against the staling effects of heat, light, and moisture. Consider the airtight security of the recommended storage canisters which we’ve personally tested.

Auto Drip
Automatic Drip

Everyone is familiar with the ease and convenience of automatic-drip brewing. Create a fantastic cup with this popular brewing method by following a few simple steps.

Determine how much coffee you would like to brew and then measure two tablespoons of coffee per six ounces of water. Grind coffee and transfer into the filter.

Add freshly drawn, filtered cold water.

Allow the entire brewing cycle to complete in order to bring out the full complexity of the coffee and evenly distribute it through every cup in the carafe. Stir carafe before serving. Be sure to drink within 30 minutes — any longer and your coffee will lose its smooth, sweet and complex flavors.

Paper Filter vs. Gold Filter

Paper filters produce a clean but less complex cup of coffee since some of the coffee’s desirable flavors are trapped in the filter itself. With a gold filter, all of the coffee’s rich, bold and complex flavors pass through without adding unwanted flavors (sometimes papery tastes are present with paper filters).

Peet’s recommended Drip Coffee Makers offer time-saving convenience without compromising flavor, thanks to precise temperature control and built-in charcoal filtration. We’ve rigorously tested these recommended brewers so you can brew your best cup of Peet’s at home.

French Press
French Press

French Press continues to be our favorite brewing method for great tasting coffee.

It offers unparalleled flavor due to perfect coffee extraction. You can control the entire process, including grind, water temperature and steep time.

Be sure to start with a Peet’s recommended french press, personally and rigorously tested so you can savor a perfect cup of Peet’s.

Use this chart to measure whole beans. Grind coffee and transfer into your pre-heated French Press.

Bring freshly drawn, filtered cold water to a boil and allow kettle to sit for 30 seconds before pouring. Pour enough water to cover the grounds. Saturate all of the grounds by stirring the French Press. Add remaining water to the top.

Slowly press the screen into the coffee and partially plunge the infusing grounds. Then pull the screen up to just below the surface. When three minutes have elapsed, press the screen and the coffee grounds all the way to the bottom. Serve immediately — and enjoy!

Espresso
Espresso

Espresso is originally an Italian method — named for preparing coffee rapidly to order with a quick infusion of pressurized water through coffee grounds.

Espresso is known for its rich bold flavor and aroma along with a pleasantly sweet aftertaste and beautiful creamy layer on top.

Grind coffee immediately before brewing; be sure to use the proper grind setting. Measure coffee to fill the filter basket inside the portafilter. Press down on the grounds firmly with a tamper so they are flat and even.

Insert the portafilter into the machine, and place a demitasse under the spout. Activate the pump pressing the brew switch. Stop the pump when the liquid flowing from the filter appears thin and develops ripples, usually around 30 seconds. Be sure not to over extract — it will create a bitter espresso.

With our thoroughly tested espresso machines you’ll be making barista-worthy lattes and cappuccinos at home.

About Espresso

A fully extracted, properly prepared espresso yields 1 to 1-1/2 fluid ounces (30-45cc), about the size of a shot glass or about half of a small demitasse cup. A properly made espresso is complex and balanced, with a concentrated yet sweet flavor.

For Espresso, Peet’s Recommends:
